Stay with Me was imagined as a series of actions and reflections around art in turbulent times, a project I proposed to a group of artists, curators and scholars in Spring 2019.

I used the term turbulence referring to the problematic relationship between cultural policies and the threatened survival of artistic practice, to the value of cultural and artistic policies in a natural environment
that is collapsing, to the crisis of the somewhat superficial notion of “artworld” that overlooks the evident multiplicity of the existing “artworlds”.

However, I could have never imagined that a pandemic would have unleashed and this is where the concept of turbulence acquired a completely different dimension.

During this tentacular and viral time in fact, where we are only apparently isolated in fragmented and separate spaces, our deep connection has emerged, despite our clearly individual creative practices.

Stay with Me has then become a process more than a project, a rather varied and complex journey between intimately personal and more public realms.

The invitation to each participant has been to explore our being uncontainable, as art is the uncontainable other (1). At the same time, we are in a multiverse, as Jalal Toufic says, where art makes visible what would
otherwise be invisible (2).

Becoming aware of this, from March 2020 this international and diverse group has dedicated a series of actions to this moment, but not only, to bear witness to our presence within it, as well as dedicating to our own art and our thinking,” that makes us think” thanks to our initiation to thought, in Toufic’s words. Part of our experience has been the dedication of our actions to a different point of view: to our willingness to build a
positive and vital reality rather than reacting to uncertainty fear and death.

The various artistic actions, the collaborations and the texts are now converging into this online platform where they are susceptible to a continuous transformation by their authors. The reflections, images, artworks produced so far within StayWithMe now inhabit within spaces that we have symbolically called rooms. Rooms, because it was from our rooms that we have met and spoken to online, although each in distant and different locations.

The various contributions are susceptible to transformation as they may be reviewed and changed according to the progress their authors will bring about in time.

Launching this platform, we are ready to share what has emerged so far in a process that is ongoing, that we perceive as unfinished. During these months of Stay With Me, we have discovered a sacredness is the sense of
separateness, and a uniqueness of thought that emerges from creative practice, from the familiarity with creative work.

The collective effort that has connected this international group of authors, amongst whom visual artists, composers, poets, curators, critics, has highlighted and continues to explore a dimension of reciprocity that
allows for a serene interest in the others’ work as well as for each author own’s creative work. This reciprocity dimension, characteristic of AILAE’s mission and of the Artegiro project, suggests a greater complexity than
what the word may suggest. Reciprocity is as captivating a concept as unexplored and not only in the cultural context. Doing culture, building content, meaning and exploring creativity has all to do with reciprocity and
cultivating it. Also for this reason this platform is an invitation to the audience to get to know the work produced in these months, to explore its contents, to openly discuss with the authors their work and continue
this dialogue.

Stay with Me è nato come una serie di azioni e riflessioni intorno al fare arte in tempi di turbolenza che ho proposto a vari artisti, curatori e studiosi nella primavera del 2019. 

Con la scelta del termine turbolenza, includevo la problematica relazione tra politiche culturali e la minacciata sopravvivenza delle pratiche artistiche, il valore delle pratiche culturali e artistiche in un ambiente che sta collassando nella sua dimensione fisica naturale e la crisi della nozione univoca di un mondo dell’arte, a favore di un discorso che faccia strada a mondi dell’arte.

Non avremmo mai immaginato che un’epidemia avrebbe avuto luogo di lì a poco. La turbolenza ha acquisito tutta un altra dimensione da quel momento.

Infatti, in tutto questo tempo tentacolare,virale, così come apparentemente dislocato, è emerso chiaramente quanto siamo tutti connessi, seppure con le nostre voci individuali e le nostre pratiche creative diverse.

Stay with Me è diventato quindi un processo più che un progetto, e un cammino molto più articolato tra le dimensioni intimamente personali e quelle pubbliche. L’invito a ciascuno coinvolto è stato un pòad esplorare quello che comunque siamo: incontenibili, perchè l’arte è l’incontenibile altro, come ho scritto in un’altra occasione (1). 

Allo stesso tempo, come dice Jalal Toufic, siamo in un multiverso, dove è l’arte a rendere visibile quello che sarebbe altrimenti invisibile ( 2). 

Con questa consapevolezza, a partire da marzo 2020, questo gruppo internazionale e diverso, ha dedicato una serie di azioni a questo momento, ma non solo, per essere testimoni della nostra presenza in esso, così come dedicarlo alla nostra stessa arte e al nostro stesso pensare che “fa pensare” grazie alla nostra iniziazione al pensiero ( come dice Toufic).

Parte della nostra esperienza è stata dedicare le nostre azioni a un punto di vista diverso: cioè non all’aver paura dell’incertezza, della malattia, della morte ma al voler costruire una realtà positiva e vitale.

Le varie azioni artistiche, collaborazioni e scritti, confluiscono qui in una piattaforma online, www.stay-with-me.org , dove sono presenti in un divenire continuo questi vari contributi all’interno di quello che ho voluto simbolicamente chiamare stanze. 

Stanze perch’ era dalle nostre stanze che ci siamo incontrati e parlati in questi mesi, seppure in luoghi lontani e diversi. 

Un divenire perchè i vari contributi presenti sulla piattaforma, dalle opere alle immagini ai testi, potranno essere rivisti e cambiati a seconda del progresso che le loro autrici o i loro autori, apporteranno nel tempo.

Adesso, lanciando la piattaforma, ci troviamo a poter condividere quello che è emerso finora in questo progetto che è decisamente ongoing, che non avvertiamo come concluso.

Attraverso questi mesi di Stay With Me, si è scoperta una sacralità ( nel senso di separatezza) e una unicità nel pensiero che emerge dalla pratica artistica, dalla familiarità con la fattura creativa e culturale. Vorremmo condividere con coloro che sono interessati questa esperienza.

StayWithMe come progetto collettivo che accomuna un gruppo internazionale di autori, tra cui artisti visivi, compositori, poeti, curatori e critici, ha evidenziato e continua a esplorare una dimensione di reciprocità che va perfettamente insieme ad un sereno interesse nei percorsi degli altri e ad una fierezza della propria ricerca creativa.

Questa dimensione di reciprocità, caratteristica della missione dell’AILAE e del progetto Artegiro, è molto più complessa di quello che il termine suggerisca. Ma per quanto ricca questa nozione sia, è alquanto assente oggi, specialmente nel cosiddetto “mondo dell’arte”, ma non solo lì.  

Fare cultura, costruire contenuti, significati e in definitiva esplorare la bellezza, hanno tutti a che fare con la reciprocità e con il coltivarla.

La piattaforma è un invito:

– a condividere le varie azioni realizzate in questi mesi, 

– a esplorare insieme la piattaformaonline nei suoi contenuti, 

– a condividere con gli artisti e autori presenti e quelli collegati i loro contributi 

– a discuterne apertamente con il pubblico invitato a entrare in contatto attraverso la piattaforma con gli autori in seguito e continuare questo dialogo.

Interlocutori naturali in questo incontro potranno essere:

artisti, curatori, studiosi dell’ arte, storici, sociologi, studenti di tutte queste discipline.
